I just finished my internship at Pivedite in June. I am a Psychology/Human Services Major at National Louis University in Wheeling, Illinois, which is one hour away from Chicago, IL. I chose this internship because I wanted to learn more about ways to help my community.
One of my primary responsibilities was to do social media posts that highlighted solutions/ actions community members could take to address social problems in Philadelphia. While researching articles to post, I learned a lot about solutions to problems like health, violence, education, homelessness, and voting. I’ve come to the conclusion that volunteering and getting involved in your community is the best way to help solve these problems. Volunteering allows you to get hands-on in your community and get to the root cause of the social justice that needs to be addressed.
Overall, my time with Pivedite has helped me strengthen my skills in researching, professional networking, and social media tactics. I have also learned how to use WordPress, which is a website creation platform. Finally, Pivedite helped me gain more interest in education and violence issues.
In the future, I would like to give back to my community by making sure people are aware of the resources they are offered and to make sure they are utilizing them.
